Sound Healing Curiosity in 2024:

A journey of inner curiosity, so I can be the BEST for my children.

On New Years Day, I attended a sound healing event at the Infinite Light Center in Jackson, MI. This event was run by the seasoned group Settle into Stillness, who lead sound journeys worldwide. My personal friend, sonic healing mentor and holistic vocal coach, Kimberly Harrison-Reili also joined them that evening. It was such a special and one-of-a-kind kickoff the the new year!

From the moment we walked in the door, I knew we were in for something special. I gave the event as a Christmas gift to my mom, step-mom, and sister. The four of us lay down on our yoga mats making a nest with blankets and pillows. Here we experienced our own individual soul healing sacred journey – together, side by side. The room was filled with energetic vibrations and healing music from crystal bowls, gongs, didgeridoo, harp, hand pan, drums, and voice. What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing is a therapeutic practice that uses the power of sound. This is typically in the form of vibrations and resonances, to promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This ancient practice has roots in various cultures and has gained popularity in contemporary holistic approaches to health and wellness.

The fundamental principle of sound healing is that everything in the universe, including our bodies, is in a constant state of vibration. Different parts of our bodies resonate at specific frequencies. Disruptions or imbalances in these vibrations can lead to physical or emotional distress. Sound healing seeks to restore harmony by introducing specific frequencies through various auditory stimuli.

5 Reasons to be Curious About Sound Healing in 2024:

As I step into the new year, I find myself contemplating my personal wellness journey. Balancing the responsibilities of being a parent and a caregiver often means putting self-care on the back burner. In 2023, I made a commitment to explore the transformative power of sound healing. Weaving it into my life to elevate my well-being and reshape how I approach parenting. I am inviting you, in 2024, to be CURIOUS about sound healing with me!

  1. Nurturing the Caregiver: Parenting can be all-consuming, leaving little room for self-care. Sound healing has become my unique refuge. Allowing me to pause, breathe, and focus on my inner-self. Embracing soothing sounds and vibrations provides those precious moments of tranquility, fostering emotional balance and resilience. We can not forget the importance of feeding and nurturing ourselves first. It will benefit every one of those around us that we love.
  2. Stress Reduction and Relaxation: The pressures of modern parenting can be overwhelming. Gong baths and singing bowl sessions have proven to be effective in reducing stress and inducing relaxation. Taking time for therapeutic sounds not only benefits my mental health but also equips me with the tools to navigate parenthood with a calmer, more composed mindset. This in turn trickles down into my children, as I encourage them to take deep breaths and to use music for relaxation.
  3. A Path to Emotional Healing: Parenting often surfaces unresolved emotions from my past. Sound healing acts as a catalyst for emotional healing, aiding me in processing and releasing buried emotions. As an elder-millennial parent, I find that I wasn’t necessarily taught how to emotionally regulate myself. Therefore, my children’s need to emotionally regulate can be triggering and frustrating as the parent. As I take a look inside, I can see that emotions are individual, necessary, and permitted. This not only benefits me individually but also creates a healthier emotional environment for the entire family.
  4. Fostering Connection with Children: The connection with my children is paramount. Sound healing rituals become shared experiences, creating moments of bonding and shared tranquility. Whether it’s incorporating calming sounds into bedtime routines or attending sound healing workshops together. These shared experiences strengthen our parent-child connection. I love that my children want to join me in my personal meditations. Taking moments to still our bodies and minds. Deep, connecting breaths with my children can take me back to the connections I felt with them while they were in my womb.
  5. Shifting Parenting Perspectives: Sound healing encourages mindfulness and self-reflection, fostering a shift in my parenting perspective. I’m embracing a holistic approach that prioritizes the well-being of both parent and child. I aim to raise children who feel seen, heard, and valued as unique individuals. This shift lays the foundation for a more conscious and connected parenting style. For this, I am beyond grateful.

In 2024, I continue to embark on a journey of self-discovery and wellness as a parent and caregiver. Sound healing is becoming my gateway to personal growth, stress reduction, and a redefined approach to raising my children. Prioritizing my well-being not only enriches my own life but also creates a nurturing environment, allowing my children to flourish as whole, acknowledged individuals.
