Our final staff highlight features Jaime Lawrence!
Jaime is the founder of Harmony Garden Music Therapy Services and has been building and growing this practice for the past 19 years—next year marks an incredible 20 years!
Jaime is a board-certified music therapist who develops contracts, provides consultation and community work, and leads a variety of events. While she’s not currently offering direct services, that could change at any time! She feels deeply grateful to lead such an amazing team of women—Harmony Garden wouldn’t be what it is without them.
These days, Jaime pours much of her energy into community-focused, forward-facing events. She began collaborating with local organizations to create the HeyyyPrettyMomma! Meetups, which have since evolved into The Village Collective—a growing community for moms that offers connection, support, free food, and resources.
Jaime is also the lead singer of The Harmony Gardeners—if you’ve been to one of our summer concerts, you’ve definitely heard her performing fun, upbeat family music (and yes, many of their newer songs are originals!).
In addition, Jaime is the only team member trained in sound healing. You may have seen our event ads inviting participants to bring a mat, settle in, and focus inward utilizing sound waves, vibrations, and more.
Jaime’s passions for Harmony Garden include continued growth, community service, and promoting wellness for all.
📣 Interview and Chit Chat 📣
Q: If you could have lunch with any musician in history, who would it be?
A: Brandi Carlile, because she is my favorite… She helped bring Joni Mitchell (my second lunch date pick) back to the stage at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022 after decades away. This powerful return parallels how music supports recovery and reconnection following a stroke or other medical condition. Also, it’s amazing what love can do and Brandi Carlile emulates love.
Q: What is something you love to do outside of work?
A: I love being involved with musical theatre. I serve on the board for Center Stage Jackson, our local community theatre, and enjoy supporting the art of musical theatre and cabaret both behind the scenes and on stage. There’s something magical about stepping into a role and becoming someone else for a moment. It’s an experience I think everyone should have at least once in their lives!
Q: What inspired you to explore music therapy?
A: I was a music ed major and realized I didn’t want to be a band director. I almost dropped out of MSU to go to a scuba diving school in Florida (I’ve been a scuba diver since I was 13yrs old). My parents asked me to give MSU one more year… They had music therapy as a major, so I gave it a try and fell in love with a career.
Q: What’s your favorite part of your job?
A: No two days are ever the same. Every session brings something new, and through music therapy I’ve had the privilege of meeting incredible people, witnessing countless success stories, and watching music transform lives in powerful ways. It’s truly a gift to be part of that.
We’re so grateful for her leadership, creativity, and dedication to making Harmony Garden flourish!
