Music Therapy Ministry at FUMC

Part of a broader vision to share the gifts of music and the arts with our congregation, our community, and beyond

WHY JOIN?

Music as Connection, Inspiration, and Healing

Music has always been a source of connection, inspiration, and healing. The Music Therapy Ministry at First United Methodist Church is part of a broader vision to share the gifts of music and the arts with our congregation, our community, and beyond.

Thanks to the Brian Buehler Memorial Fund, which was established to expand and enhance music and arts outreach, this ministry offers music therapy services designed to meet people where they are. Sessions provide opportunities for self-expression, stress relief, social connection, and personal growth through music — making a meaningful difference for individuals and families across Jackson.

This program honors Brian’s vision of music as both a cherished part of church life and a gift to the wider community. By creating space for music to bring comfort, joy, and creativity, the Music Therapy Ministry continues his legacy: ensuring that future generations experience the transformative power of music in ways that reach far beyond the sanctuary walls.

Strengthening community bonds through music therapy

OUR PROGRAMS

Music Therapy Ministry Services

Congregation Care

Personalized music therapy sessions for FUMC members who are homebound or in care facilities. These sessions bring comfort, connection, and quality of life through the power of music.

Community Access

A scholarship fund ensures no one loses access to music therapy due to financial barriers. Support ranges from short-term assistance to ongoing coverage of session costs.

Family Programs

Group music classes and family-centered events welcome both church and community members. These gatherings foster connection, creativity, and joy through shared music-making.

Living Legacy

Made possible through the Brian Buehler Memorial Fund, this ministry carries forward Brian’s vision of expanding music and arts outreach. His kindness and love of music touched many lives—including Jaime’s, as he accompanied her on piano and organ when she was a young flautist at FUMC. Brian’s influence continues to inspire this work today.
